Old, tatty brushes can be your best friend!

Over the years, as I tried to improve my painting, I found that my work became increasingly tighter and tighter. Not intentionally, but as a consequence of trying to get things 'right'!
I, like many artists, have found loosening up more difficult than almost any other aspect of painting. We hijack our own work by believing that the more we work on it the better it will become. So many times I've had a promising block in that is then ruined by over working.
So, in February this year, I decided to try and do something about this problem. I decided to start 'daily painting', in which the goal, as the name suggests, is to finish a painting each day. This helped, my work immediately got ... scruffier! (ahem, 'looser')!
As the year progressed though I learned to embrace some of the scruffiness that came with working quickly. I began to find that some of the early marks made during the 'bock in', were actually worth keeping and not re-working.
